Some of the Zoo nodes are running many CPU- or
memory-bound jobs, which slow everyone else down.
To get a sense of the load, use the uptime command,
as in

  % uptime
  10:35:00 up 8 days,  2:47,  2 users,  load average: 6.00, 5.07, 4.58

If the numbers on the right are larger than 2, try
logging into a different node (or logout and log into
node.zoo.cs.yale.edu again), which will give you a
different one.
