Will the backgrounded CMD always either be the node that is 1 left then 1 right from the SEP_BG node OR the node that is directly to its left?

i.e          &
            /  \
           A    B
          /  \      
         C    D
             /  \
             E   F
In this example. would the proper CMD to background be D? And if the D sub-tree did not exist, A would be to correct CMD to background?
